What's the Mini-Hook™ and How Does It Work?

Mini-Hooks™ are messages you place at drop-off points in your VSL to try and prevent that drop-off, thereby increasing viewer retention.

💡 We recommend dimensions of 1000 x 100 (at a 600px resolution), but it might be worthwhile to experiment to see what fits best for your page.

The copy for these messages typically teases some valuable upcoming content, sparking curiosity.

Below is an example of a Mini-Hook™ used during the lead of a rejuvenation VSL. It stays on screen for about 10 seconds. This very example is shown in our tutorial at the end of this article.

2. Setting Up Your Mini-Hook™

On your video, click Edit → Mini-Hooks™ → Add Mini-Hook™

Then, choose whether you want to create an Image/GIF Mini-Hook™ by uploading a file, or use the Text format to create your Mini-Hook™ directly within the platform.
Next, give your Mini-Hook™ a name, set the start and end times for when it should appear, and click Save.

Example: If you want the Mini-Hook™ to appear 10 minutes into the video and remain visible for 7 seconds, enter 10:00 in "This Mini-Hook™ will appear at:" and 10:07 in "This Mini-Hook™ will disappear at:", respectively.

Mini-Hook™ in Text Format

With the Text Mini Hook feature, you can create your own custom mini hooks directly in VTurb. In the next steps, you'll learn how to create yours!

How to Create Your Text Mini Hook:

After selecting the Text format, enter the text for your Mini Hook. If you'd like to add a dynamic countdown timer, follow these steps:
Dynamic Countdown
Insert {mm:ss} anywhere in your text to display a countdown timer that decreases automatically. Use the format minutes:seconds, for example: {1:30}.
Example:
"DON'T MISS THIS {1:15} OPPORTUNITY."

You can also customize the appearance of your Mini Hook to match your page's branding.

The available customization options are:

Font Weight: Defines the thickness of the main Mini Hook text. The higher the weight, the more prominent the text will appear.
Countdown Weight: Adjusts the thickness of the countdown timer's font, allowing it to stand out more or blend in with the main text.
Font Size: Controls the size of the main Mini Hook text.
Countdown Size: Defines the size of the countdown timer displayed next to or below the text.
Border Radius: Adjusts the roundness of the Mini Hook's corners. Lower values create sharper corners, while higher values make the element more rounded.

Padding:

Top + Bottom: Defines the internal spacing above and below the content.
Left + Right: Defines the internal spacing on the left and right sides of the Mini Hook.
Alignment: Chooses how the content is positioned inside the Mini Hook (left, center, or right).
Text Color: Sets the color of the main text.
Background Color: Changes the Mini Hook's background color.
Countdown Color: Customizes the color of the countdown timer, allowing it to stand out from the rest of the content.
